Natural Beekeeping

In La Donaira there is a sincere concern for the current situation suffered by bees, and so we set out to act and try to change their situation. Having a privileged environment, where for almost 15 years we have not used chemicals or practiced conventional agriculture, the farm becomes the ecosystem model to help these small and important insects, strengthening and helping them as much as possible and raising awareness to our visitors to give them back their place and to re-govern our agriculture and our ecosystem.

Our beekeeping focuses on the genetic improvement of our bees, strengthening them and allowing their immune system not to be weakened. To carry out all this work, we respect the vast majority of their honey and take nothing but the surplus that they are not going to use. Nor do we remove pollen or royal jelly, since they need these foods to be strong and healthy. Currently, we have 22 hives, seven of which are placed in trees, 11 in floor hives, one in a trunk hive located in our medicinal garden and three hives located in a bed of bees.

Near our medicinal garden is the bed of bees, something new, capable of providing a unique experience, so that our guests and visitors can get closer to this wonderful world of bees, being able to perceive their sound, their smells, their vibration and we can understand this hierarchical system of operation and respect for nature.

“Another world is not only possible, she’s on her way. Maybe many of us won’t be here to greet her, but on a quiet day, if I listen very carefully, I can hear her breathing.
